I grew up in the country between the towns of Chrisman and Paris. The daughter of educators, my natural ability leaned toward teaching. I considered another direction, but, ultimately, could not fight against what came innately.
During my student teaching at Millikin University, I married a United States sailor whom I met through a mutual friend. After graduation, I moved to Connecticut near Groton Naval Base and taught a Head Start preschool class. After a quick summer in Virginia Beach, we moved, again, to Georgia (just north of Jacksonville, FL) and lived near Kingsbay Naval Base. While there, I taught third grade, fourth grade, and earned my master's degree. The advanced degree allowed me to serve as media specialist in a school of 1,200 students. We lived in Kingsbay for a decade.
As the decade came to an end, we decided it would be best for our family (our daughter was three-years-old) to be near other family members. Since I am from the area, the Crestwood position felt like a good fit. I began my Crestwood tenure at the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year. While at Crestwood, I have served, mainly, as media specialist, but have also taught sixth and seventh grade research and eighth grade literature.
I am now in my 30th year of teaching. I am dedicated to the students who enter my classroom. Not only do I care about their education, I care about their well-being. It is my firm belief that all people (including young people) deserve to feel valued, feel safe, and to be heard. My goal is to make my classroom a place they feel all of those things, and to be an ambassador for our youth. They have so much to offer our world!
I look forward to working with my students, and the adults in their lives, to make the school year a successful one.
